Monsters and mythical creatures, known as Cryptozoology
scientifically, are the study and exploration of
legendary creatures such as Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster -
and also include many lesser-known, unverified animals such as dragons,
mermaids, vampires, and werewolves, to name a few.....
The difference
between Zoology and Cryptozoology is that a Cryptozoologist focuses
mainly on one particular animal, while a Zoologist inventories and
catalogs new animals as they are found. There are only a few dozen
investigators left in the field of Cryptozoology, which makes the
investigators almost as rare as the animals they study.
Since the discoveries in the field are so
few and far between, there is little or no funding for this type
of research, and financial support must be raised from private
sources. However, on this earth there are undoubtedly many still
undiscovered life forms, which makes Cryptozoology a very exciting
endeavor. Obviously, some of the legendary monsters and creatures,
such as werewolves and dragons are indeed mythical - but in other cases,
like Loch Ness we may have a totally unknown species that has survived
since the dinosaur age, or a totally new mutant who has evolved because
of some external force in our modern world. Indeed, in the
botanical world, there is one tree that has survived virtually intact
since prehistoric times, and that is the Ginkgo. This tree, even in
modern times, gives us medicinal agents that can be found nowhere else
on earth. Given that there are plants that have survived ice ages
and other world traumas, is it so difficult to imagine that mammals,
birds, or reptiles have
managed to do the same?
In this section, we will explore the world
of mythical creatures and monsters, starting with the more well known
creatures, and working our way down to the more obscure, but just as
interesting worldwide reports of strange creature sightings. This
is a work in progress, so do Bookmark and return often, as we update
these pages daily.
